"They fly now?!" New Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker clip on GMA
Star Wars fans who were up bright and early or at least the ones aware that Episode IX Director J.J. Abrams would be making a special appearance on Good Morning America on ABC.
The sequence showed on GMA shows Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, C-3PO, and BB-8 in pursuit by First Order troopers on the desert planet, Pasaana. This is a planet we have seen a few different ways in the released footage from Episode IX. This is the planet where we believe some large scale celebration is taking place. Not only are First Order troops chasing our heroes down but we get to see the new jet troopers launch for the first time which is pretty satisfying. Avoid holding cereal or liquids while watching this clip for the first time. You can watch the clip directly below.
You know, this really works in a lot of ways. There are still some moviegoers out there that have no idea when the next Star Wars movie hits theaters. That said, Disney/Lucasfilm are just now getting deep into the big marketing push. We already have a handful of TV spots in circulation teasing at scenes with the Knights of Ren for example.
What this mere :30 clip does so well is teases the humor present in this movie.
There was no cheesy one liner front and center. There was no "Yo Mama" joke on display. This was situational humor and it really works. Those jet troopers are pretty sweet too!
