Star Wars Gaming Hits hard with 3 trailers at Gamescom Opening Night

Updated: Aug 31

I sat there with held breath waiting for the upcoming news about the very secretive Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga, but with confirmation from developers and others I knew we were getting at least two trailers - Imagine my surprise when we got three! Let's break them down in order of appearance

Star Wars Squadrons

It started off with a Single Player Preview - it first started like a wonderful propaganda film keeping with the orange colour scheme for Star Wars Squadrons. and some great images with Leia and the Alderaan explosion. but right when we think its over we get a voice over form the Narrative Producer Susanne Hunka breaking down the campaign. Right away in the trailer it's confirmed that admiral Rae Sloane is in fact making her first "live action" appearance in a video game. I know there was some speculation from the previous trailers, but this is not confirmed by her name said aloud.

Moving forward the trailer is captured as if simulated in VR as the whole game is VR ready - we are even greeted by Wedge Antiliies (who I did pick up right away in the teaser trailer) We are also told to be "focused and ready to go" from Hera Syndulla (which sounds like the original voice actress as well but will confirm)

Nothing in this trailer made me go - Eh I've changed my mind - Im still going to pre-order and you better believe will be streaming it on Twitch. it still looks great, but what really surprised me was the announcement that immediately followed!

The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu (Game Pack)

So one of my go to games when I was in college and to this day is the Sims - its a guilty pleasure and in the past they have had skins for May the 4th - especially since EA got the licence (and the Sims is also an EA property since the beginning)

Previous years we got Boba Fett, Darth Maul and many other skins that would come out for free, but we never got a full on pack! if you are not familiar with the Sims - we are right now in the 4th generation of the game (The Sims 4) and now you can add on Game Packs - think of them like DLCs (yes I know some people will throw tomatoes at me and say boooo EA) but this has been the norm for The Sims since its inception - plus how do you keep the game interesting and engaging? That is what this latest announcement is all about.

The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu is set on the remote planet on the edge of Outer Rim territories, inspired byStar Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort® and Walt Disney World Resort®. As a new visitor to Batuu, Sims will experience the authentic sights and sounds of theStar Warsuniverse, including theMillennium Falcon and DJ R-3X’s interstellar hits at Oga’s Cantina. They’ll also embark on exciting missions, unite with iconic characters like Rey and Kylo Ren, and get their hands on their very own lightsaber and droid. - EA

If im honest I had just finished eating dinner and thought I would check out the live feed of Gamescom and I saw this video - and I was like wait a minute - they are speaking gibberish (which is a classic The Sims trait) and then thought "HOLY CRAP!" (and then remembered EA made the Sims) so you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be streaming this too, but for a more chill conversations. I will have to check but you should be able to get the base game and then this add on - again I can hear the mob and see the pitch forks and torches - but its still going to be great.

if you want to check out all that comes with the Journey to Batuu Game Pack you can check it out on EA Website . But lets talk to the biggest reveal that came about 20 minutes later (although the host made it sound like it was coming much later in the show)

Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga

First of all they are not stupid - they hit us hard with the same trailer music from the final trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, and it hit all the emotional chords. But we see iconic scenes from all 9 films - and I think what I got from it was the humour! we need Star Wars to be fun some times. There is a time and place to find meaning in this prose, and political movements. Star Wars can be deep but it can also be fun. And I loved the humour - the classing stop music to deliver the line. I laughed out loud at Luke drinking the blue milk before fighting, the Porgs in Luke's robe, and Han and Greedo back and forth shooting one another. That is a very meta shout out to the age old question of "who shot first?". These iconic moments with the now infamous Lego humour are amazing and I am here for it.

But sadly as the community was afraid it is getting delayed from its original October 20th release to now a spring 2021 release. Of course this really bummed me out - as someone who has never played any Lego game, I was ready to have this in my stream schedule of all things Star Wars gaming, but alas that will have to wait. but judging from the footage (which looks like game play) its going to be glorious. I don't know about you but I would rather wait a further 9 months and get a fantastic game, than a rushed bug ridden piece of garbage.

So in the mean time I will see you wall for my Rise and Shine streams and also Wednesday's here on the Beyond the Blast Doors Network.
