REVIEW: "Star Wars: Fascinating Facts" - bite-sized behind the scenes looks at the Skywalker Saga

The why's and how's of Star Wars have fascinated fans of the series since the beginning. Though we all like to lose ourselves among the stars of that galaxy far, far away, there is still that hunger for behind the scenes content.

We see it in the excitement that comes with set photos being released online. We see it in the documentary-like featurettes that accompanied The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Today, Lucasfilm has continued that grand tradition with the release of "Star Wars: Fascinating Facts", by Pablo Hidalgo.

"Fascinating Facts" dives into the making of the Skywalker Saga, presenting bite-sized pieces of information that overall make for a really easy, light read. Beyond the usual "did you know" type fun-fact, this book also features character timelines, planet and vehicle profiles, and even excerpts from the screenplays. The book isn't broken down by fact type, and it isn't presented chronologically, which means someone reading the book from start to finish has no idea what they're going to get on the next page.

WHAT THIS BOOK DOES RIGHT: I thought it was a lot of fun, and it was a great way to fill little gaps in my day. The random placement of each fun fact means it's really easy to pick the book up, read a couple of pages, then just revisit it every so often. I'm also a huge sucker for behind the scenes in general, and to have prequel and sequel content together in one book is wonderful. I think fans of any or all the trilogies will find something to love here.

TO MY SURPRISE: If you are the type of fan who is very plugged in, who has scrolled IMDb, and watched all the documentaries and behind the scenes you could get your hands on, there likely won't be much in here that you don't already know. That was certainly the case for me. As I went through it, I found that most of the fun facts were something I was at least tangentially aware of, so none of the information was groundbreaking. Then again, I don't think it's supposed to be. Ultimately this book is an entertaining look at the world and the making of Star Wars, and is sure to come in handy as a study guide for your next Star Wars pub trivia!

TO MY DISSAPPOINTMENT: One tiny, tiny thing that bothered me about the book to do with the character timelines I mentioned. On Luke's timeline, it puts the time gap between Ben Solo's turn to the

dark, and the showdown on Crait at 3 years. But Kylo Ren's timeline sets the distance between the same two events at 6 years (which to my knowledge is the more accurate). I know it's such a small thing, but if the story group doesn't know this for sure, who does?

Recommended for: Old fans, new fans, trivia junkies, people who like behind the scenes content

Rating: 8.5/10 (yes, I docked a half mark for the inconsistency)
