REVIEW: "Bounty Hunters #13: War of the Bounty Hunters: Showdown on Smuggler's Moon" by Ethan Sacks

"Bounty Hunters #13: War of the Bounty Hunters: Showdown on Smuggler's Moon" written by Ethan Sacks, illustrated by Paolo Villanelli and Arif Prianto

"War of the Bounty Hunters: Showdown on Smuggler's Moon" is the 13th issue of the 2020- "Bounty Hunters" long-run comic series. It was written by Ethan Sacks, illustrated by Paolo Villanelli and Arif Prianto, and published by Marvel Comics on June 9, 2021.

Hmmm...this issue didn't really hit me one way or the other. It mostly consisted of Valance punching his way through obstacles on his mission to find Han, with Dengar essentially begging him to try a different tactic. The two main obstacles were 1) Devono Vix, a sentient who supposedly knew everything going on at Jabba's palace and 2) Chewbacca himself, who doesn't want anyone getting in the way of his finding his friend. There was tons of action, if that's your thing. And the plot definitely moved forward in a broad way. But I just didn't get a deeply interesting dose of story to go along with all the intense visuals.

There is also a side story with T'Onga and her significant other Losha in which the two women arrive at the Fortress of the Mourner's Wail ("Dotharian, deep in Hutt Space"). Turns out that Crimson Dawn arrived shortly before them, taking out anyone and everyone they could find (we even see a dead guard dressed in Dryden Vos's security detail outfits)--Qi'ra has become utterly ruthless in her thirties!! T'Onga and Losha are at the Mourner's Wail fortress in the first place to try and track down Cadeliah's grandfather on

T'Onga discovers a Crimson Dawn enforcer wearing the same outfits as Dryden Vos's Hylobon security in Solo!

her dad's side of the family--remember Cadeliah is the girl who was born of both feuding clans (the other being the Unbroken Clan). Once they find him though, Crimson Dawn enforcers start flooding the room... You know, I hadn't thought of Cadeliah until right now!! I wonder if the Rebels are taking good care of her??

Gallow's humor at its best as Vix's head goes bouncing away courtesy of the sniper.

Valance has some help in taking care of Devono Vix...though he has everything pretty well in hand. A sniper shows up and lops off Vix's head, but not before he divulges the news about Crimson Dawn to Valance...news which Valance is hard pressed to believe... The next issue is called "Deathstick" and I'm assuming the mysterious person pictured in the last panel is both the sniper and "Deathstick." I'm excited to find out what she has to bring to the table!!

Could this sniper be "Deathstick"?!?

As for Valance versus Chewbacca, the cyborg is trying to explain to the Wookiee over and over again that he just wants to help Han and pay him back a little for Han saving his life "and maybe even [his] soul" on Qhulosk back in his cadet days. I absolutely LOVE this Valance--a caring, conscientious, although still brash person who just wants to do the right thing. But Chewie doesn't want help and Valance is left sidelined.

I honestly have no idea where this could go next! I am loving the overall thrust of the story and am excited for "Star Wars #14" to see what other pieces are going to be added to the puzzle.

SCORE: 7/10 - interesting enough but nothing earth-shattering and great visuals but a bit too much action in the service of sacrificing plot for my tastes
