Greg Has His "Eye On" Obi Wan's! | Holochronicles #showmeyourcollection

Greg (EyeOnCanon on Twitter) is an awesome Star Wars fan (and awesome supporter of this Network!). His Star Wars collection covers all kinds of genres: LEGO, Funko, Posters, Pins, Displays, Figures, Ships Sabers and other Oddities.

Who is your favorite character? Obi Wan is by far my favorite. As a child of the dark times (born in 1983), I always felt that Star Wars was cool but that I came late to the party. When the prequels arrived, I finally felt like I had something made for me and my friends, and Obi Wan was a central part of that. As I aged, I became a teacher and then a professor, and so my love shifted from just young Kenobi to a deep love of Old Ben. I love his wisdom and sacrifice, and his assuredness in the final confrontation in ANH. My goal with my Kenobi shelves is to collect as many strange and unique versions of the character as I can. I also have just about every Kenobi carded figure, but they are in storage.

What are your favorite items in your collection? The first is the R2-D2 Pepsi cooler. Growing up, my dad ran the mom and pop grocery store in my home town (a town of about 1,000 people). After having to deal with a faulty Pepsi cooler, Dad worked with Pepsi to get the R2-D2 cooler free of charge (and he never used it). I have had it with me through every move since then. The second favorite are my two swatched of 1977/1978 Star Wars wallpaper. My parents split up when I was a kid. My Aunt came by and saw I was having a hard time with it. She had raised three boys in the 70s/80s and understood me better than I think anyone else in the family. That Christmas, she mailed me a package of those two swatches of wallpaper, taken from a roll she had to decorate her boys bedroom and framed. She was a teacher and librarian, and I think she knew the power of story and inspiration, and wanted to make sure I still dreamed big. I will never forget the kindness.

Man, that is an incredibly touching story! Star Wars continues to blow us away in how relevant it remains, and how important it is to so many people - for so many reasons. For some, it's a fun set of movies. For others it has deep personal meaning.

Onto the gallery!

What is next on your list of things to get? After years of debate and hesitation, I'm going to go after a set of the vintage Kenner figures! I bought a perfect size typeset tray to display the first 36 and will be looking for good examples of each. I'm looking forward to the thrill of the hunt!
